Services

  • Individual therapy sessions are typically once per week for 45 minutes. Sessions can vary in duration and frequency depending on multiple factors, including the type of therapy and phase of treatment.

We primarily work with adolescents and adults for individual therapy. Dr. Mikaela Kinnear works with children 6 years old and up. Our team of clinical psychologists use evidence-based therapies where sessions are often agenda-driven, present-focused, and change-oriented provided with validation and compassion. Our approach to individual therapy is to support you in achieving your treatment goals and experiencing change. Read more about the types of therapies our psychologists practice below.

The cost of a 45-minute individual session is $275.

Prior to scheduling your first appointment, feel free to contact us to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer any of your questions and to help you determine if you would like to move forward in working with us.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group is a weekly, 90-minute group where participants learn and practice DBT skills in the following modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. DBT Skills Group is structured like an engaging class and is not a “process group” or like a typical individual therapy session. While participating in a DBT Skills Group is a necessary component for clients in DBT, DBT Skills Group can assist people engaged in other types of individual therapy.

Also, you don’t have to see a West Coast CBT psychologist to participate in our DBT Skills Group. If you are participating in individual therapy with an outside therapist, our group could assist you in reaching your current individual therapy goals.

Contact us for more information and to discuss how you might benefit from our DBT Skills Group.

  • Dr. Andie Murray provides couples counseling using evidence-based therapies to address each couple’s needs: Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) specifically for high-conflict couples. Couples counseling differs from individual therapy because both members of the couple are present for the sessions and work with Dr. Murray to address their issues and work towards their goals as a couple.

Couples sessions are typically 60 minutes once per week. The fee is $366 for each 60-minute session.

People can participate in couples counseling and individual therapy simultaneously. However, it is not recommended to participate in couples counseling or individual with the same therapist.

  • Parenting coaching provides parents with one-on-one access to an expert in behaviorism to help them navigate the stressful, confusing, and, sometimes, frustrating challenges of parenting. Parenting coaching is different than individual therapy for the child or family therapy and is often used in conjunction with those therapies. While individual therapy addresses an individual’s experiences/needs and family therapy addresses the interactions between family members, parenting coaching solely focuses on the parents’ actions/behaviors in response to their child’s/children’s behaviors.

Coaching helps parents understand the short- and long-term consequences of their responses to their children’s behaviors so that they can change their responses to reinforce more effective behaviors in their children and reduce unintended negative consequences.

Areas of Practice

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is not your typical “talk therapy”. CBT is a powerful class of evidence-based interventions developed by researchers who have conducted thousands of studies on CBT. In fact, CBT is considered a “gold-standard” intervention for many major psychological conditions including the following:

    Anger Management | Anxiety & Worry | Depression & Sadness | Insomnia | Low Motivation & Procrastination | Panic |  Phobias |

CBT sessions are designed to feel a bit different than usual therapy. Specifically, CBT sessions are agenda-driven, present-focused, and goal-oriented. A CBT therapist takes an active role in the session and focuses on the development of practical thinking and behavioral skills to help you overcome the barriers separating you from your goals.

  • DBT is a specialized form of CBT that was designed to treat pervasive emotion dysregulation. DBT includes individual therapy, skills group, between-session phone coaching calls, and therapist consult team. DBT was originally developed as the “gold-standard” intervention for those with borderline personality disorder, but has since proven effective for numerous other psychological conditions including:

    Recurrent Depression |  Bipolar Disorder  |  Suicidality  |  Self-Harm  |  PTSD

DBT has been found to be effective for adolescents and adults.

  • Research indicates that one of the strongest predictors of change and growth for people who engage in DBT is their amount of DBT skill use, such that higher skill usage leads to greater change and reduction in symptoms/distress. While attending a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills group is a necessary component of participating in DBT, DBT Skills Group can be a meaningful addition to other types of individual therapy addressing a variety of psychological conditions and treatment goals. Using DBT skills can assist people in reducing and managing their symptoms while improving their quality of life. Participants will learn and practice skills in the following modules:

Distress Tolerance  |  Emotion Regulation  |  Interpersonal Effectiveness |  Mindfulness
